Boucar Diouf is known for his unique and crowd-pleasing style. The writer and comedian—a fixture in Canada’s Francophone community—will launch the Rendez-vous Santé en français with a dynamic and stimulating conversation-styled conference focused on francophone health issues. Mr. Diouf be joined by renowned journalist Véronique Soucy, the host of this year’s event.

Boucar Diouf

Boucar Diouf is a successful biologist, comedian, author, host, and columnist. He was born in Senegal on May 26, 1965, and arrived in Quebec in 1991. Now a Canadian citizen, he holds a Ph.D. in oceanography from the Université du Québec à Rimouski and since 2007 has been a member of the circle of excellence of the Université du Québec network. A lover of the French language and of communication, he has had a lifelong passion for teaching and popular science. He has numerous publications to his credit, including Sous l’arbre à palabre, mon grand-père disait, Les Éditions des Intouchables (2007); Le brunissement des baleines blanches, Les Éditions des Intouchables (2011); Rendez à ces arbres ce qui appartient à ces arbres, Les Éditions La Presse (2015); and Boucar disait…, Les Éditions La Presse (2017). Mr. Diouf has also received the following awards and distinctions:

  • Chevalier de l’ordre national du Québec (2016): awarded by Premier Couillard
  • Prix Pierre Dansereau (2014): awarded by the Association des biologistes du Québec for contributing to the advancement of biology
  • Prix Charles-Biddle (2013): awarded by the government of Quebec in recognition of a person’s contribution to enriching Quebec’s cultural diversity
  • Mérite du Français en éducation (2011): awarded by the Association des professeurs de français du Québec
  • Prix nez d’or of the festival Grand Rire de Québec (2011): for exceptional work hosting the Gala Humour du Monde
  • Prix Jacques Couture (2006): awarded by the Ministère de l’Immigration du Québec for his contribution to intercultural cooperation
  • Prix révélation du Grand Rire de Québec (2005)
